Our client was a long-time member of the County of Allegheny Maintenance Department. One of his duties was to respond to and photograph accident scenes. When a plane crash causing multiple fatalities occurred, he spent weeks photographing the accident scene and developed psychiatric problems diagnosed as post-traumatic stress disorder. We obtained an expert psychiatrist and filed a claim petition against Allegheny County on his behalf. We were successful in obtaining workers' compensation benefits and the workers' compensation judge (WCJ) even ordered Allegheny County to pay some of our client's attorney's fees. Our client drew workers' compensation benefits for over twelve years and we then negotiated a settlement for him.
